Graduate Scholarships

You have finally completed your undergraduate degree and are ready to move on to the next phase of your education. Unfortunately, graduate school can be even more expensive than the tuition you have already paid and finding scholarship money is more important than ever.

Graduate degrees are necessary for many of the best careers and the tuition and fees associated with such degrees reflect that importance. Luckily, there are a great number of graduate school scholarships available for you. All you have to do is apply for them.

American Copy Editors Society

The American Copy Editors Society promotes the highly important career of copy editing by offering five annual awards to college juniors and seniors as well as graduate students. Four of these awards are for $1,000 and one is for $2,500. The highest scholarship is named for the “godfather” of ACES, Merv Aubespin. Applications must be submitted by November 15 each year in order to be considered. To apply, send an email to the Fund vice president, Alex Cruden, at

Attachments to the email must include a brief essay on the most important aspects of copyediting in a multimedia society, a resume, up to six original headlines, and three references from faculty members and/or supervisors. At least one of these references must be from someone with whom you have worked in a professional capacity. This material will then be forwarded to judges around the country for determination.

Once finalists are chosen, they will have to take a 45-minute editing test online. The results of this test will be added to the other application materials for a final judging. For full details and information on past winners, visit
